Can physical therapy help even if your rotator cuff is not repairable?
Pure and simple--YES! I sent a 56 year old man for 8 weeks of PT because of fatigue with overhead activity. He had an irreaparable 2-tendon cuff tear due to muscle atrophy and excessive retraction. After 8 weeks he felt 75% better, and most importantly, experienced less pain while using his arm. The reason PT helps, is because the exercises strengthen the muscles that control the shoulder blade---and as "scapulothoracic" motion improves, so too might better function result.
